[Open Thread] 2008 Sprint All-Star Challenge (Lowe's Motor Speedway at Charlotte)

Sorry I'm late; had a domestic engineering emergency (clogged drain).

Anyway, the first segment of the Sprint Showdown has just concluded.  At the current rate, there will be no cars left to transfer to the All-Star race.  Sheesh, what a bunch of reckless wrecks.

Second half is about to start.  I'll be posting comments in the Comments section rather than the body of the story.  Come join in the fun!

Lap 8 of 20 (Sprint Showdown; second segment)

Well, that sucks for Johnny Sauter.

Lap 9 of 20

There’s something fundamentally wrong with Sam Hornish Jr. making his way into the All-Star Race… ah well, he still has time to blow it.

Lap 14

He’s not blowing it.

Checkered Flag (Sprint Showdown)

Allemdinger and Hornish transfer into the All-Star race. Wonder who won the fan vote… ah well, we’ll find out soon enough.

Kasey Kahne won the fan vote

I was hoping for Robby Gordon. Ah well.

Pre-race intros...

... could this be any lamer? I’m almost missing the stage-diving days.

No way, Dude

I love the Drum Corp intros. They need to keep them forever.

Oh look...

... the crowd is telling Kyle Busch he’s number one.

And giving him the peace sign.

Well, half of it.

Sigh...

... gonna miss you, DJ.

Go Jimmie, Kasey, Casey & Kyle!

by Bobbleheaded on May 17, 2008 9:26 PM EDT   0 recs

Kyle's certainly going...

...this second segment should be interesting.

Thus far...

... the only drama in this race is whether or not Kyle Busch’s crew can fix his engine woes in ten minutes. Ah well. Maybe there’ll be something other than one car blowing away the field followed by occasional pack shuffling in the last two segments.

by Diecast Dude on May 17, 2008 9:57 PM EDT   0 recs

Well...

... that sucks for Kyle Busch.

by Diecast Dude on May 17, 2008 10:05 PM EDT   0 recs

Junior takes the lead...

... and the crowd goes ape…

by Diecast Dude on May 17, 2008 10:15 PM EDT   0 recs

Those Roush boys don't play very nice with each other...

... and the crowd goes silent as Biffle takes the lead.

by Diecast Dude on May 17, 2008 10:21 PM EDT   0 recs

Did I just hear them say...

... Biffle’s complaining about a loose wheel? AGAIN?!! After last week was the same thing? Unbelievable.

by Diecast Dude on May 17, 2008 10:44 PM EDT   0 recs

Not again!

Family obligations kept me from watching live, but as I sit and watch the rebroadcast, my heart is broken early - Elliot wrecked early-again. He had the POLE darn it!!!! Is it too early to wish for ‘09?

Lost my identity!

And what hoops I had to jump through just to post a comment.
See what happens when fans actually vote for someone whose best days are behind him, or who only has four Cup races to his name? History is made.
The new cars still aren’t ready for the intermediate tracks, I’m afraid. And it seems that Hornish is no fluke. Maybe he will start surprising us.
