Two pre-race questions: is fewer commercials equaling more Bill Weber really much of a trade-off? And is everyone as sick of Coke Zero plugs as I am?
See you in the comments area.

Final pre-race thought...
... wow, those stands are empty.

And they’re already in parade mode up front? Swell.
by Diecast Dude on Jul 5, 2008 8:22 PM EDT 0 recs
Your answers Mr. Dude.
No. it isn’t a trade off, give me the commericals, and the Coke Zero plugs were old months ago.

Hello Ms. Mindy!
How are you doing this Saturday evening?

Not too bad
Mute button is getting a work out, and I am craving pizza. How are things with you? Did you have a nice 4th?

You want pizza too, huh?
Don’t have a Papa John’s nearby, alas. We do have a place in town named Pyzano’s that’s owned by a guy who’s won a bunch of pizza dough twirling and throwing contests along with pizza bake-offs. Best pizza I’ve ever had. Ever.
4th was pretty good. Went to the brother in law’s for some barbecue and general hanging out. Yours?

After the initial annoyance of dumb family members...
It didn’t go too bad. Had a picnic in a park, enjoyed the evening, and watched the fireworks.

Quote from Wally Dallenbach: “Unlike Talladega, this track is so rough I don’t know if you’ll be able to bump-draft in the corners.”
Don’t worry. Kyle Busch will try it anyway.

Lap 11
Oh good, Jon Wood is back on the track. I was so worried.

My dream: just once, I’d like to see a race where the beginning isn’t filled with “Jeff Gordon is complaining about his car” comments. Just once.
by Diecast Dude on Jul 5, 2008 8:32 PM EDT 0 recs
As for the empty stands
everyone is waiting for the Pepsi machines to get restocked.

Caution courtesy of A.J. Allmendinger (blown right front). Meanwhile, Dale Jr. has taken the lead. The Junior Nation is currently drowning out all the leftover fireworks from yesterday.
by Diecast Dude on Jul 5, 2008 8:38 PM EDT 0 recs
Wow...
... what was with all the smoke off of David Ragan’s car?
by Diecast Dude on Jul 5, 2008 8:39 PM EDT 0 recs
Lap 23
Meanwhile, back at the race Smoke has made a second pit stop (may we find out why, please?). Kyle Busch came out of the pits first. The Junior Nation is warming up their beer can-throwing arms just in case.

“This portion of TNT’s wide open coverage is brought to you by Viagra.”
Oh goody. Now we can learn that all it takes for your attractive neighbor to put out is you buying a motorcycle. Or something like that.
by Diecast Dude on Jul 5, 2008 8:49 PM EDT 0 recs
I think they are supposed to be married.
But I do have to laugh about one aspect of the Viagra thing. All the announcer guys to is say “this is sponsored by Viagra” they don’t do a recap or a tagline. Just an awkward pause.

Any truth to the rumor Chad Knaus and Jimmie Johnson are currently singing a duet of “Stuck In The Middle With You” by Stealers Wheel?
(And if you remember that, I wouldn’t admit it either.)

You should listen to them on Race Scanner. They’re frickin’ hilarious sometimes.
Jimmie: It smells like cotton candy in here.

I’m amazed they didn’t have the Big One on pit road. That was a mess. Methinks NASCAR will issue a blanket warning to everyone about how they leave the pits from now on.
