Pokin' Along At Pocono
A few random thoughts while attempting to recover from another weekend lost in the Poconos...
- Well, at least there weren't any tire issues.
- It should be obvious to all that the races at Pocono need to be shortened, preferably to 300 miles. Even subtracting the rain delay yesterday, you were looking at more than three hours of little worth noting. Is losing an hour's worth of beer sales in the grandstands worth losing television viewers who view every event at this place as an endurance contest?
- Memo to Kyle Busch: how's that fall to earth going? Snark aside, while two weak races in a row do not a collapse make it is a clear sign this year's championship is anything but a foregone conclusion.
- Something to mull over: in Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards might we be seeing this generation's Richard Petty and David Pearson? It's far too early to call it that right now, but the two are developing quite the competitive rivalry. Factor in Chad Knaus and Bob Osbourne being two of if not the two best crew chiefs in NASCAR, and this gentleman's duel bears watching.
- Another common factor between Johnson/Knaus and Edwards/Osbourne: they very, very seldom beat themselves. The same cannot be said for Kyle Busch. While he is getting much better at not running every lap like it's the last one, as demonstrated yesterday when he was abusing his right rear for no particular reason he's not there yet.
