TARGET TEAM FINISHES THIRD AND FOURTH AT TWIN RING MOTEGI
MOTEGI, Japan. (April 21, 2008)-After rain washed out the
scheduled start of the Indy Japan 300, Target Chip Ganassi Racing's Scott Dixon
led twice for a race-high 101 laps but had to pit from the lead on lap 195 of
200 and finished third at Twin Ring Motegi. Target teammate Dan Wheldon assumed
the lead on lap 195 after Dixon pit but had to make his final stop just a lap
later to come home fourth. Both Target cars were strong over the course of the
race which was slowed four times for 29 laps, but fuel mileage gambles
ultimately disrupted the flow of the 300-mile event.
The third place finish marked Dixon's second podium finish of the season, while
Wheldon's fourth place result marked the first time he finished outside the
top-two at Motegi since 2003.
Dixon maintains second position in the IndyCar championship race with 100 points
(-12 to leader Castroneves), while Wheldon drops from third to fifth with 85
points (-27).
Next up for the team is the Road Runner Turbo Indy 300, April 27th at Kansas
Speedway (5:00 pm ET on ESPN).
Team Target Quoteboard:
Scott Dixon "It's just one of those races where anything you
tried, you didn't know exactly what to do. You had people in the back who were
pitting and taking fuel under yellows. If we had had a yellow, we would have
been stuck back there. But it worked out perfectly for the guys who made it a
fuel race. Really frustrating because we had the car to beat, but I guess that's
the way it goes."
Dan Wheldon "It became a fuel mileage race, and we had a really
good car. It was a good day for Target Chip Ganassi Racing, but not what we
wanted."
