CONCORD, N.C. -- The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series rookie class
experienced a shake-up in points as Colin Braun moved from fourth to
first in the Raybestos Rookie of the Year battle. Braun's third-place
finish at Kansas gives him a five-point advantage over second-place
Justin Marks. Braun's performance is the best by a Raybestos rookie
since Roush Fenway Racing teammate Erik Darnell ran third in the 2006
season finale.
"From the first race at Daytona, my goal this year has been to
win that Raybestos Rookie title," said Braun, driver of the No. 6
Con-way Freight Ford F-150. "We've had fast trucks every race so
far, but California and Kansas are the only races we have the results to
prove it. It felt good for everyone on the team to finally get the
finish we deserved at Kansas."
The third-place finish at Kansas was Braun's first top five of
the season. He also earned a ninth-place finish at California in
February to give him two top 10's in only five starts in 2008.
"To be honest I don't really understand how the rookie point
system works, but I know if we keep having runs like we did in Kansas
that will put us in a pretty good position," Braun said. "We need
to keep getting top-five and top-10 finishes every race. In addition to
keeping us ahead in the rookie points, running up there will also put us
in a position to win a few races this year."
Braun's next race will be Friday, May 16 under the lights at
Lowe's Motor Speedway. The North Carolina Education Lottery 200 will
be televised live on SPEED starting at 7:30 p.m. (EDT)
