NOTES:
  • This Week's BB&T Chevrolet at Darlington Raceway ... Clint Bowyer will pilot Chassis No. 079 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Nationwide Series stable. Built new for 2008, this is the same No. 2 Chevrolet Bowyer raced to a third-place finish earlier this season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and to a second-place finish at Nashville Superspeedway.
  • Bowyer in the Loop ...
    • Average Running Position ... According to NASCAR's Loop Data Statistics, Bowyer is ranked second, to Carl Edwards, in the Average Running Position category with a 9.027 ARP. The ARP is derived from taking the sum of a driver's position on each lap and dividing it by the number of laps run in each race.
    • Driver Rating ... At the same time, Bowyer enjoys a 106.9 Driver Rating - third only to Kyle Busch (111.3) and Edwards (109.1). The Driver Rating is a formula that combines the following categories: wins, top-15 finishes, average running position while on the lead lap, average speed under green, fastest lap, most laps led and lead-lap finishes. The maximum a driver can earn in each race is 150 points. The Driver Rating number is used pre-race as a prediction tool and post-race as a performance evaluator.
    • Laps in the Top 15 ... Meanwhile, the six-time NNS winner has spent 1,660 of the 1,918 laps completed this season (86.5 percent) running in the top 15.
    • Laps Led ... Bowyer has led 200 laps in Nationwide competition this season and trails only Busch and two-time Sprint Cup Series Champion Tony Stewart in that category.
  • A Look Back at Last Week ... Last Friday night at Richmond, Bowyer started fifth and struggled with a temperamental-handling BB&T Chevrolet but still notched a ninth-place finish. The top-10 effort was Bowyer's eighth top 10 in 11 races this season. The following night, Bowyer drove the No. 07 BB&T Chevrolet Impala SS to Victory Lane and secured his second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series career win.
  • The Darlington Report ... In four previous Nationwide Series starts at the "Track Too Tough Too Tame," Bowyer has one top-five and two top-10 finishes. The six-time winner in NASCAR's No. 2 division has an 18.3 starting average and an 11.8 average finishing rate. At the same time, Bowyer has completed all 588 laps of competition over those four races.
  • Fore the Hometown ... On Tuesday, May 6, Bowyer will host the inaugural Clint Bowyer "Support Emporia" golf tournament and live auction at Emporia Municipal Golf Course in his hometown of Emporia, Kan. All proceeds will benefit the Emporia Community Foundation. The ECF is a collection of separate funds and resources given by caring citizens who have chosen to make their community a better place to work and live, now and in the future. The ECF is a tax-deductible charity and qualifies under the IRS rules governing 501(c)3 charity. The funds collected from the generosity of the community will go towards education, child programs, elder care and recreation in Emporia and surrounding areas. · RCR Nationwide Cars at Darlington ... In 27 previous Nationwide Series starts at Darlington, RCR-prepared race cars have posted one pole (Harvick, 2003), seven top-five and 13 top-10 finishes. RCR cars have also led 204 laps at the historic 1.366 South Carolina race track. · Three to Go ... RCR has earned a Nationwide Series victory at 23 of the 26 tracks on the 2008 schedule. The only tracks on the current schedule where RCR hasn't earned wins are Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, Darlington Raceway and Talladega Superspeedway.

CLINT BOWYER QUOTES

How do you think the BB&T Monte Carlo is going to react to the new surface?

"I'm curious how the BB&T Chevy will react to the new surface. In my opinion, we should have tested at Darlington. We're testing both our Nationwide and Cup Series cars at Charlotte and we've got a brand-new surface down at Darlington that no one has been on. Why didn't we go down there and test? But, it's going to be the same for everybody and everyone is going to have to adapt to it the same way."

With the horsepower on the Nationwide cars being throttled back, do you think you'll be able to run wide-open at Darlington?

"Who knows? Only time will tell. We're just going to have to see how much grip there's going to be. Darlington is a fast place. Always has been - at least for the first few laps. One thing is for sure, it's going to be fast."

Do you think the new surface will help the racing?

"I don't know if the new surface will improve the racing. Hopefully, it will help. Darlington is so unique. It's like wine. It only gets better. It was time for a new surface. It was definitely time but you just hate to see the changing of the guard so to speak because there is so much history at that place."
