NOTES:

  • This Week's Holiday Inn Chevrolet at Darlington Raceway ... Jeff Burton will pilot Chassis No. 055 from the Richard Childress Racing stable in this weekend's Diamond Hill Plywood 200. This is the same Holiday Inn Chevrolet Monte Carlos SS Burton drove to Victory Lane in March 2007 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Burton also raced this No. 29 machine last season to a fourth-place finish in May at Lowe's Motor Speedway. After being outfitted with all the 2008 updates, this Holiday Inn Chevy finished third at Atlanta in March.

  • Good Run for Holiday Inn Racing ... Last weekend at Richmond International Raceway, the Holiday Inn Racing Team notched their seventh top-10 finish in 11 starts this season and maintained the fourth position in the 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series owners' championship point standings. The team sits 155 points out of the top spot.

  • Burton in the Loop at Darlington ...
    • Too Tough to Tame? ... In 23 starts at Darlington, Burton has notched four wins, two poles, 11 top-five and 15 top-10 finishes. He has also led 705 laps.
    • Streaking ... Dating back to March 1997, Burton has finished in the top 10 in his past 13 starts at Darlington.
    • Pretty Spiffy in the Palmetto State ... Burton is second in the NNS Average Running Position category (5.741) and is currently the series' second-best Quality Passer - a statistic derived from the number of positions improved while running in the top-15 during green-flag conditions. Also, he is fourth in the Driver Rating category (114.8). The Driver Rating is a formula that combines the following categories: wins, top-15 finishes, average running position while on the lead lap, average speed under green, fastest lap, most laps led and lead-lap finishes. The maximum points a driver can earn in each race is 150 points. The Driver Rating number is used pre-race as a prediction tool and post-race as a performance evaluator.

  • RCR Nationwide Cars at Darlington ... In 27 previous Nationwide Series starts at Darlington, RCR has posted one pole (Kevin Harvick, 2003), seven top-five and 13 top-10 finishes. RCR-prepared cars have also led 204 laps.

  • Three to Go ... RCR has earned a Nationwide Series victory at 23 of the 26 tracks on the 2008 schedule. The only tracks on the current schedule where RCR hasn't earned wins are Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, Darlington Raceway and Talladega Superspeedway.

  • Double Duty in Darlington ... Burton will pull double duty this weekend at Darlington. On Friday, he will race the No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet in the Nationwide Series and on Saturday, the 20-time Cup Series winner will pilot the No. 31 AT&T Chevrolet.

  • This is a Test ... Scott Wimmer and No. 33 Chevrolet Impala SS participated in the NASCAR Cup Series' test Monday, May 5 and Tuesday, May 6 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. This was the fifth of seven tests allowed under NASCAR's 2008 testing policy. The remaining tests available to teams in NASCAR's top division will be conducted at Pocono Raceway (May 27-28) and Lowe's Motor Speedway (Sept. 23-24).

  • Under the Lights ... Live coverage of the Diamond Hill Plywood 200 at PIR will take the green flag Friday, May 9 beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The race will be televised live on ESPN2 and broadcast worldwide on Motor Racing Network and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the 12th of 35 points-paying races on the 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series tour will air on SPEED the same day beginning at 3 p.m. EDT.

JEFF BURTON QUOTES:

You are running a part-time Nationwide Series schedule. Why did you pick Darlington as one of your races?

"There are a couple of reasons why I am running Darlington and the main one is that I just like the track. I have had a lot of success there in the Nationwide car. It is an added bonus to get on the track on Thursday and get some extra practice time on the new asphalt. Even though the Cup and Nationwide cars are completely different, I think there is some merit to having four practices instead of two and being able to learn the track and some of the nuances. It looks the same but it is going to be different and learning as quickly as you can is going to be important. Track time is an added bonus but the main reason is because it's Darlington and I like running there."

Why do you like Darlington so much?

"I've had some great success in the Nationwide Series at Darlington. I just love running there and the history of the track. When I think of NASCAR's history, Darlington comes to my mind. I went there as a kid and watched races and to me it's a special place. Any chance that I get to run the Holiday Inn Chevrolet at Darlington, then I am going to take it."
